"she started shakin' to that fine fine music!" The Velvet Underground, 'Rock & Roll'

Im going to start this post by saying how disappointed I am of you who call yourselves readers, followers, and subscribers. My last post- I thought- was brilliant. The story of a night in the wonders of Geek-dome. But.. NO! You people didn't even comment on it. I was sure that I was going to have a mountain of delighted readers comments that are at least one word long like "cool" or something. Not even a comment of amazement towards my new found version of rock, paper, scissors?! Come on people. (Only my sister commented and that is because she felt sorry for me.) Tsk. Tsk. And you call yourself devoted readers.... : )

Any who. Have you ever read a book, and you and the main character are so much alike? Its creepy cool, right?
Well that is what I have fallen into with my current read: "Audrey Wait!" By: Robin Benway. I saw this book on the shelf and had to buy it because it HAD MY NAME ON THE COVER!
I personally felt cool. So I bought it and as I started to read it I began to realize that Audrey in the book and I were more a like than just our name. Heres the reasons a) cover of the book- we look a like haha b) she loves music c) she randomly braids her hair. I do the same thing (and often get teased by my little sis for it.) 4- she is working on a collage in her room where she is covering the whole wall with images. I am doing that to- except im covering my door because my Mother doesn't want me to put tape on the wall so when I pull it off the paint comes to... Strange happenings. We do have our differences though- like breaking up with a boyfriend and having him write a song about me. But that is so not important. I personally found that exciting that me and this book and are like similar and so I thought you should know too! *image on the right is my copy :D pretty sweet huh?

3rd topic of discussion is Music. (and my love for it... duh!) If you really want to know something about me, you should know this: I like my music loud. I mean loud. I'm not talking the kind of loud where your parents knock on your bedroom door and ask you to turn it down.
Please. That's amateur hour. When I say loud, I mean you-cant-hear-your-parents-knocking-and-the-neighbors-are-putting-a- FOR-SALE- sign-on-their-house-and-moving-to-another-block-because-they-can't-handle- the- constant- noise-anymore loud. You have to turn it up so that your chest shakes and the drums get in between your ribs like a heartbeat and the bass goes up your spine and fizzles your brain and all you can do is dance or spin in a circle or just scream along because you know that however this music makes you feel, its exactly right. If your not this kind of person, then I don't think we'll be great friends. Music can help you like all the time. It's like when something horrible happens to you and you wonder, how will i ever live another minute without freaking out about this? Put on music. And then a minute will go by  without you thinking about it, and then an hour, and pretty soon your life goes back to normal and you can't even remember what had you all upset. Like what Bob Marley & the Wailers, said in 'Trenchtown Rock'- "One good thing about music / when it hits, you feel no pain."

My current playlist of top ten favorites:
*******Note that the numbers mean nothing in order of liking them- its just to help me count to ten.
  1. Fireflies: Owl City
  2. Hotel Room Service: Pitbull
  3. I can't stop Laughing: The Trews
  4. Smile: Uncle Kracker
  5. West Coast: Coconut Records
  6. Hollywood Bowl: Band of Skulls
  7. Wanted: Jesse James
  8. Save Your Soul: Jewel
  9. Boom: Anjulie
  10. Please Dont Touch: Polly Scattergood

Dudes and Dudettes- if you like something in this post LEAVE A COMMENT for the sake of the gods and goddesses of this world and others. I hate to feel unloved! And why do you always comment on the lame posts and never on the ones I find extremely interesting? Hmm? Yeah- thats what I thought!

Peace, Baby.

Rock - Paper - Scissors - Lizard - Spock

**Just a heads up- my computer is not cooperating right now so the spacing is funky. Sorry!

"Enlighten us, but make it quick" is the slogan of Ignite-a community event celebrating the passion and creativity of GEEK culture. Ignite events showcase a series of speakers who, in rapid succession, give five-minute talks on whatever ignites their passion. Last night I went to go see this interesting idea in action. When I arrived I filled out a survey, got a lucky blue ticket (which won a T shirt later in the evening) and sat down in side the Murray Theater. The people there were complete GEEKS- but way awesome. Some lady even had lights "igniting" her outfit. She later spoke and told us about her love for lights, which only added to the amazingness of her pink glowing dress and hat (yes her hair was pink to, but when I saw her at the Arts Festival... it was blue)

The format and freedom is half the fun with Ignite- the speakers are allowed 20 slides that auto-forward every 15 seconds that have been pre made in Power Point, whether they're ready or not. Sounds like a challenge to me. I was so amazed at how fast some of these people could talk. I had to breath for them. The first half of the night was quite entertaining, but the 2nd half was filled with subjects like "we are not all human because there are bacteria cells in us." Oh well, at least it ignites their passions right.

There was also Powerpoint Karaoke where 3 contestants presenting an Ignite style presentation on a slide deck they've never seen before. This had potential but the contestants didnt do their part. With the right people I have a feeling this would be great.

Before the actual event all started there was a competition of Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock. I am unable to play this game due to my handicap to make my fingers divide in half and create the ever so famous Star Trek Spock (i told you it was Geek Fun)

Here is how you play: ROCK PAPER SCISSORS SPOCK LIZARD

"I invented this game (with Karen Bryla) because it seems like when you know someone well enough, 75-80% of any Rock-Paper-Scissors games you play with that person end up in a tie. Well, here is a slight variation that reduces that probability. (Note that for those of you who like to swing your fist back and forth and say, "Rock, Paper, Scissors, GO!", might want to continue to do that, replacing "Rock" with "One," "Paper" with "Two," and "Scissors" with "Three.") This version is also nice because it satisfies the Law of Fives."

Don't worry about me- just suffering through a skate event hang over.

Saturday was the Concrete Rodeo Grand Nationals! This was exciting stuff for a die hard Concrete Rodeo team member and fan. (haha) so what did I do? Well on Saturday morning I woke up early and was at the South Jordan skate park at 6:30 a.m.
I was ready to set up and get this event under way but the Miss Mother Nature had different plans. It rained. Until 11:00. I waited in a giant white van with my father, sister, and JJ for about 5 hours. It was very displeasing I tell you. But then the clouds dispersed and the sun was shining the rest of the day! :)
We had a good turn out- even for the economy which has brought our numbers down 20 percent- filled with incredible talent and exciting skating.
Here are a few photographs from the event:

Now that it is over I am not sure what I am going to do this weekend. I almost feel like I should pitch a tent in the back yard and then drive to the skate park in the morning and eat mexican food every night!

Heres to a great summer of skateboarding!
Cheers!

because i do know the people i feel far away from
i left happiness
and came home to drama and depression
things seem different now

Photogenic Pheet

The images you are about to witness were taken at the last two skate events. I love capturing personality through shoes :D
